Stephen focuses his practice on commercial litigation, helping clients resolve complex disputes. He represents individuals, small and midsize companies, and large political subdivisions. His practice includes counseling these public and private clients on litigation avoidance strategies that are compliant with state and federal law.
A significant part of Stephen’s practice includes advocating on behalf of policyholders against insurance companies that refuse to honor insurance claims. He represents businesses and individuals in breach of contract and bad faith actions when insurance companies don’t hold up their end of the bargain. Whether it’s failing to conduct adequate investigations, unreasonably delaying the claims process, or wrongfully denying coverage, Stephen prides himself on holding insurance companies accountable.

He also represents clients locked in environmental disputes whether with the Ohio and Federal Environmental Protection Agency or other political subdivisions, including rural water disputes under 7 U.S.C. § 1926(b). Stephen has extensive class action experience at both the federal and state level where he is well-versed in navigating the class certification process. He is an accomplished legal writer, and he has successfully argued appeals at state appellate courts and authored winning briefs before the Sixth Circuit and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeals.
